The esteemed football figure has stated that he is not seeking a re-entry into football management, noting that it would be tough to recreate the higher calling he encountered as the national team coach.

He expressed his intention to channel his attention toward supporting young people and addressing what he described as a pervasive negative narrative presently prevalent in the country.

Embracing Fresh Opportunities Outside of The Sport

Speaking on air, he was asked about rumors linking him with open coaching positions in the Premier League and elsewhere.

“My role with England was not just a job—it was a mission representing my nation,” he answered. “That’s going to be very hard to replicate. Having had 37 years in football I’m enjoying finding other areas where I think I might be able to make a difference.”

Dedication to Positive Examples

Ahead of the publication of his new title, his new work on leadership, Southgate shared that he is deeply committed about offering guidance for the youth, applying experiences from his period as England’s men’s football manager from 2016 and 2024, as well as his role as a father.

Southgate feels that his journey managing the squad, during which the team transformed from being deeply unpopular to widely supported, holds wider relevance.

“Initially, the relationship with supporters was severely strained,” he said. “Many perceived the squad as arrogant, but we managed to change that perception. I witnessed firsthand how the team could unite individuals from all backgrounds.”

Family Life and Shaping the Next Generation

Drawing on his family life, the coach remarked: “Every parent aims to provide a solid foundation, yet there comes a time when children stop heeding parental advice. I’ve faced this at home, just like others, and I believe this area is critically important.”

He continued: “There’s a negative narrative around our country at the moment and we’ve got to give young people hope, we’ve got to give them guidance. We’ve got incredible talent but we need to them to find the right role models, the right friendship groups because those decisions have such a big impact on the rest of their lives.”

Togetherness Beyond Discord

Southgate asserted that “what brings the nation together outweighs what pulls it apart” but that the cultural focus often centers on conflict.

“It’s understandable why people are disaffected,” he stated. “Economically lots of places are in tough situations now and that’s going to prompt desires for change. But I have seen the ability to unite the country. I saw during Covid people doing shopping for the neighbours and that’s when we as a nation are at our best, when we’ve been pushed into a corner and come out and shown resilience.”

His upcoming publication, Dear England, is set to provide additional perspectives on management and national identity inspired by his notable career.
