Iran Claims Strike on American Facility in Bahrain, During Widespread Retaliatory Strikes.
Tehran reports attacking a US naval base in Bahrain, as Iran launched missile attacks across the region in retaliation for a "massive" and ongoing attack targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an vicinity close to the headquarters of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The extent of any impact is uncertain and the United States has not commented.
Regional Interceptions
In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - all home to US military bases - said they have intercepted incoming projectiles in their airspace.
In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry said it had successfully engaged several missiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the region.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement it was attacking American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the attack on Iran initiated by the US and Israel on Saturday.
That preceding assault - launched at around 06:15 GMT - has so far targeted locations associated with the the regime, with President Trump encouraging the Iranian people to rise up against the regime.
Regional Fallout
In the State of Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israel Defense Forces reported it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The defence ministry of the UAE said in a statement that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems engaged the projectiles with notable success and successfully intercepted a several projectiles," the statement continued.
Officials reported missile fragments fell on a populated district in the capital, resulting in some property damage and fatalities.
The US Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the UAE Air Force.
