Heartbreaking Update on Cargo Plane Crash: Death Toll Climbs to 13

The number of victims resulting from the UPS cargo plane which caught fire and went down has now reached 13, per official announcements.

Mayor's Announcement

While en route to the Workers’ memorial service, I learned of a thirteenth victim that lost their life as a consequence of the UPS flight 2976 incident,” expressed the city mayor in a social media post. “My thoughts are with the families, companions and co-workers of all who were taken in this recent calamity. We will get through this as one.”

Casualties Confirmed

An announcement from the company identified the officers aboard the McDonnell Douglas MD-11 as Captain Richard Wartenberg, Co-pilot Lee Truitt, and International Relief Officer Dana Diamond.

“Our sympathies reach out to every employee who has been affected and everyone in our community community – assisting you and guaranteeing you get the attention and aid you need is our priority,” the organization’s message stated.

Probe Findings

National investigators revealed that the freight aircraft’s left wing burst into flames and an power plant fell off just after departure from the aviation hub, causing the aircraft to fall and explode into a blaze.

The National Transportation Safety Board stated it is probing the plane’s service record, that was in Texas for maintenance several weeks prior to the accident.

Aviation records indicated the jet was on the ground in that location from early September to mid-October.

“We are aware that this jet was there in the facility,” stated an investigator on later, not giving a specific date range. “We will review every piece of service that was completed, including the Texas period, straight to the date of the journey.”

Retrieval of Vital Components

The cockpit voice recorder and data recorder were retrieved, and the motor was found on the tarmac.

The units – called flight recorders – were constructed to withstand collision damage and severe fire from blazes, and they seemed to be undamaged when discovered among the crash debris. Authorities intend to reviewing recordings from the devices.

Jet’s last flight details displayed an elevation of that level and a rate of 210 miles per hour ahead of the crash.

Service History

Based on aviation authority documents from that date, a fracture on a component within the fuel container needed fixes.

Singapore-based ST Engineering, which indicated it offers aircraft servicing for the company’s jet and operates a service location in that city, refused to speak, but expressed it would cooperate fully when officials contacted it.

Activities Restart

Meanwhile, the hub activities resumed that evening with its overnight or nighttime process, official Jim Mayer stated. All three runways at Louisville Muhammad Ali international airport were also back in operation.

The sorting center in the city is the company’s biggest. The center engages over 20,000 people in the region, processes 300 trips per day and sorts more than four hundred thousand packages each hour.

Local Reaction

A gathering was conducted on the evening of 6 November by the area labor union, which acts for employees at the airfield, the organization’s primary air cargo hub.

Teamsters Local 89, which stands for UPS workers, commenced the vigil with a period of reflection at that time, the estimated moment of the crash two days earlier.

“This incident was so unexpected, so surprising,” the official told the assembly of 200. “No one had a opportunity to bid farewell to each of those who we have mourned.”
