But, whereas the previous argument was about financial fairness, the new claim is that a declining Europe is fundamentally unworthy due to its embrace of multiculturalism.

Trump proclaims Europe is weak, and by publicly highlighting the rifts between Washington and European capitals, he objectively helps Putin by actively undermining European cohesion—all while denying any responsibility.

This dynamic is playing out at possibly the most critical moment for Europe in decades, amid a brutal conflict in Ukraine and escalating Russian-hostile actions elsewhere on the continent.

As European nations draw closer to Kyiv facing continuing warnings of American abandonment, the danger is that Trump has rationalized a rationale for ignoring his allies.

The European Response

These developments demands a robust response from European leadership. Although certain leaders, including Germany's leader, have been blunt in their pushback, including the office of UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer—have continued with a policy of seeking to placate the U.S. administration.

Recently, a Downing Street spokesperson refused to criticize Trump's comments about Europe or his renewed attack on the mayor of London.

The spokesperson stated, "He has a productive partnership with the U.S. president and a strong relationship with the London mayor, and is committed to working with both to achieve better outcomes for the British public."

The undeniable truth is that Trump means what he says and repeats what he means consistently. The time has come to stop pretending that things are different.
