Jair Bolsonaro has been arrested after authorities found he posed a concrete flight risk while under domestic detention.

The former head of state was found guilty of planning a military coup in September and sentenced more than 27 years in prison, but he continued under home detention pending appeals.

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes said the move to detain the septuagenarian politician was a preventative measure after recent developments were revealed.

This involved attempting to break his electronic bracelet and a summons to a demonstration that could "allow for a possible escape.

Judicial Records Show Escape Concerns

In a paperwork permitting the custody, the judge said information from the facility tracking his home detention suggested the former leader's aim to disable the electronic ankle bracelet to ensure success in his escape.

This, it said, would be "facilitated by the chaos caused by the demonstration called by his son.

His son, Flávio, who works as a senator, called for a assembly of his backers near his father's house to take place on Saturday evening.
