Around fifty cars have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Automobiles, walls and postal boxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they reported in a release.
Officers state they were alerted during the night on Wednesday, when a individual discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish liquid.
The liquid had been applied in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then found multiple other smeared cars and house walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Police state early analysis indicate the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.
"There is still no indication as to its origin; authorities are not yet cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the event," they stated.
Local authorities said they were trying "to resolve the incident" and have asked to the public for information.
An important political figure stated the incident made him speechless and had to be addressed quickly.
"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right attack five years ago," he wrote on social media, referring to the killing of nine individuals by a gunman targeting individuals of foreign heritage in 2020.
